Punk elements: New York vs. Milan

I love punk. There's something about the edgy and grungy style that just puts a really big smile on my face whenever I see it happening on a runway - cause it means we will be seeing lots of it on the streets.

Whenever designers take inspiration from the streets and translate it into the runway, it gives me a sense of fulfillment I can't even begin to describe. That's why I decided to talk about the different ways designers took inspiration from punk and added some elements of it to their looks, and the different ways they did it in New York and Milan.

The punk elements I saw for the New York show were more subtle and classier than I thought they'd be; like leather, lace up boots, fishnets, chains, fur with denim, and all things that can be easily made to look "normal" as opposed to grungy. It was also very present in the hair and makeup area. If I had to choose, I'd say my favorites were Wang and Rodarte.

Italian designers have a way of turning all sorts of textures into anything they want. That's what I loved so much about their type of punk influences. They used prints like cheetah and plaid and textures like velvet and denim and turned all their models into punk royalty - paying special attention to details and with the help of dark lace and studded shoes. I especially loved the Moschino elements.

That's all for now - and remember, punk is not dead!!
